ABOUT ME

Artist Statement
As a designer, I am drawn to Swiss Design.  I am influenced by the clean and modern appearance that is simple and to the point.  Swiss Design uses clean fonts such as Helvetica and is based around the idea that form follows function.  This influence has greatly effected my design work, especially through the fonts that I choose and the function of which my designs serve.  I use Swiss Design characteristics in my work so that my designs will be simple and pleasing to the eye.  Aside from Swiss Design, I am drawn to De Stijl design principles.  Similar to the De Stijl design, I use lines and forms that work as compositional tools in my designs.  I use these influences of Swiss Design and De Stijl to create designs that are functional, minimal, and organized.
Another medium of my work is through digital and film photography.  I am inspired by natural light and how it surrounds and falls on my subjects in different ways.  Whether I am shooting portraits, still life, or landscapes, it is important to me to incorporate principles of design.  I achieve this by using lines, textures, values, and balance in my photographs.
I would describe my design aesthetic as functional and minimal.  In the past three years, one of the most important things I have learned about is the principles of design.  When I incorporate principles such as hierarchy, unity, and contrast, it can completely change my design to make it more appealing and functional.  I have learned how important it is to create a design brief for each of my projects and how it has helped me make sure that my design is serving my clients needs properly.
